a question on English?

Hi,

I am writing instructions on how to use a product, an application. One of the instrucutions is how to choose a name for a service when setting up the service in the application .
I just don't know how to describe this instruction in English. In gerneral, the name should be meaningful( that is all I can say). For example if the service is used by a communiction department for emails, the service should be named :

commu-email

an example:
a service for DSL from the Dating deparement should be called
"DateDSL" or Date-DSL“ etc。the point is that the name is descriptive. But how can I describe this way of setting up names in English???????????

How should I describe this precisely in English? I am a learner. of English. Can you help please

It's not clear to me if the application itself requires such specific names, or if you're just suggesting this to make it easier for the users. If it doesn't have to be as specific as your examples describe, write what the first answerer says. If it does have to include the department in question and then the service, you'll have to be a little more precise:

The first five (or fewer) [if there is a maximum length] letters should be the name of the department using the application, the next character should be a hyphen (-), and the final five or fewer letters [again, if there's a maximum length] should be the type of service.

If the application needs the names to have a minimum or maximum length, you have to make that clear. (I'm just guessing that it may because you used "commu" and "date"). If there are rules about upper/lower case, you must mention them as well.

You could say:
'Create a name that reflects the service you wish to use'.
Give an example as you have in your question.

If on the other hand, you are writing your instructions under separate headings and you asking about what heading you could use, why not simply say:
'Choosing a name for your service'.
List your instruction below this heading.
