You' ll have to get a degree in Archeology and while doing that you will also be taking up anatomy and a number of related course. Most universities have an Archaeological dig team. You would work basically for free unless you were hired on staff. Then I am pretty sure the pay would not be real high to start with.

You'll need alot of patience. A dig can last for a number of seasons. Very few digs become famous among the general population.

If you want to experience this first hand before ever going into it in college, it is possible. Illinois Archaeological sites usually want volunteers for field work. You can sign up for a 2 week "camp". This will let you know if you will like this field. Hot weather, rain, cold, bugs, snakes etc. are all awaiting you. You do have to pay something but I think is is around 3-4 hundred dollars for 2 weeks. Most of that is to cover meals and rooms and some small amount of equipment. Try searching Illinois Archaeological dig - volunteer school.

well first you need to know how to spell "archaeologist" and secondly you need to figure out what type you want to be.
I was an anthropology major for awhile and many archaeologist take this major in order to become one in the anthropologic field. Then theres palentology which you could get into which I believe is digging up dinosaur bones.. not to sure on that one.

Go to college and major in Archaeology. This is human history. If you want to study fossils-take Geology and become a Paleontologist. (Don't worry about your spelling. I did a Check Spelling on this word and Yahoo! has it wrong!)
