A French business man when asked about Indians told this joke.

Once there was an exhibition of crabs. All crabs were housed in glass jars with lids firmly fixed.

One of the jar having 4 crabs had no lid on that. One visitor asked the manager the reason for not securing that jar with lid

The manager told-They are Indian crabs, so dont need to put a lid on their jar

Visitor asked- what if one or more run out of jar

Manager- oh you dont know about Indian crabs. If one of them tries to go out of jar the other three will pull his leg and bring him down. Such way no one will ever leave the jar.

DO YOU FEEL THIS IS RIGHT ABOUT INDIANS?

I think that it is no longer as relevant as it once was. Indians, have deliberately been divided by outside powers. First it was the Muslims, then the Brits and now it is the leftists/secularists and communists. Because there has never been a sense of brotherhood and common love/nationalism, Indians have always indentified with individuality more than community. This has resulted in a "every man for himself" ethos and thus the success of one Indian seems to be interpreted as a threat to another.

Secondly, as Indians are becoming more educated, sophsiticated, professional and forward thinking, it is rendering this concept more and more obsolete. Indians are beginning to help, support and work with each other much better than was the case. This is why the country seems to be growing from strength to strength at the moment.

It's not even right about crabs! It's a racist anecdote. Instead of "indians" insert whatever group you don't like. And the construct "indian" doesn't apply to any actual humans, whether they live in south-asia, the caribbean or euro-colonised continental america - it's a word that is applied from outside - many would never guess that somewhere there are people who call them "indians".

So, by asking this Question, you show your own racist true colours. The category "indian" is a silly constructed archetype held dear by "the great white chief in Washingbomb DC" and all his underlings ..... it helps them maintain a sense of cultural superiority and excusifies them for having thieved a whole continent from its rightful owners.

No, I choose to disagree. Its there in every culture. If someone wants to fly over the cuckoos nest, the society norms will try pull them down. Mass population of India are the middle class people who want to succeed materially and so everyone fighting for the same piece of the pie will try to grab it by any means. Humans are not designed to be selfless and Indians are no exceptions.

To some extent you are right (But why only Indians?... this is true of all poor coutries)

But a society which has been under yoke of slavery. ... a society infected by poverty, social evils etc... does behaves like this

Once Indians regain economic strength and become aware of their great culture... this story will no longer be applicable

This is everywhere.
The reason it is called for India is because of relative poverty.
If some Indians fight for essential things, the French will fight over luxurious things. But it looks more mean to fight over things with less economic value.
