I can never seem to do it. It just seems to not want to rub off on my lower eyelid, then slips and pokes my eye. Is the eyeliner meant to be quite hard?

No. You can get liquid eyeliner or a softer pencil.
I like the liquid and the softer pens/pencils because you can soften it with your fingers so you don't have a real hard looking line. I kind of feather it with my fingers.

Only liquid eyeliner will attach itself to the inner most line of your lower eyelid. That part of your eye is moist and that's why the hard pencils won't work there. Those are primarily used for applying your liner just under the moist skin that touches your eyeball.

What you need is what I use. PENCIL PERFECT by L'Oreal.
It will stick onto the moist part of your lower lid. I just now tested it to make sure for you.

It's soft and you don't need to sharpen it. You simply twist the base of it and more liner shoves up.

I had to test it just now because I apply my eyeliner just below the ridge of my eyes.

Yup. That's what you need. It's very soft and goes on easily there.

To apply it without sticking yourself in the eye, do this. Place a free standing make-up mirror on a table or kitchen counter. Place your elbow on the surface of the table. The arm that's holding the eyeliner. This will give you easier control when you're applying it. Your elbow on the table will steady your hand so you can make smoother lines.

Yea, I suggest that you get:

PENCIL PERFECT by L'Oreal.... I think you'll be a lot happier.

Here is a simple trick that I learned from a beauty book: Get as close to the mirror as possible, open your mouth (if you open your mouth, it will make it very hard to purposely shut your eyes), and slowly trace along your bottom lash. You may have to try this a few times before yoy get it right. Practice bi- daily, and within a week, you should be like a pro. I found that I can achieve the look I want with liquid eyeliner, rather than pencil. I find that liquid eyeliner allows you to control the amount and shape that you want. Pencil is too messy for me.

No! it isn't suppose to be hard and all its doing is ruining your eyes for deep wrinkles later best bet is almay 16 hr liner it's soft , smooth and wont cause you to get poked when you use it. just barley rest your hand on you cheekbone and tilt your face slightly down. now look up into the mirror and your able to line without pulling on your eye area at all . believe me, i've lined my eyes since i was 13 and im now 40 and not a wrinkle in sight , but you should see my best friend, she used the hard one you speake of and now she uses mine and wishes she knew long ago before the wrinkles and the pokes!!!

she has eyeliner on her water line. its not underneath the bottom eyelashes its kinda like ontop of the eyelashes. hopefully you know what water line means. =/ umm.....try getting a different eyeliner. i know that wet'n'wild eyeliner does not work very well. i use benefit black eyeliner and it goes on very smoothly and works very well. you can get it at any sephora store. basically follow your water line from top to bottom and go dark line over line it alot and you will get her look. oh and dont forget to curl the eyelashes and put mascara on. if your still poking your eyes then you just need put your elbow on a sturdy place like the bathroom counter and then put the eyeliner on. goodluck =)

Pull the lid tight by pulling on the corner of your lid, the outside part. If you mess up, no biggie. Go over the fudged part with a damp Q tip. It erases the mistake.

i use eyeliners that are soft....i find the softer ones are easier to apply. gently stroke the eyelid as u move the eyeliner along. it does take time and you need to practice a lot. good luck...o' . 'o

practice makes perfect. it's all in the hand eye coordination. try using a liquid pencil eyeliner...they look like felt tip markers and they handle pretty well

for me i get up close w/ to the mirror then i lightly pull down above my cheek which gives it tension.Young girls usually jus trace there "inner eye" put acually you should apply the eye liner right below that...it wont rub off as fast also!
