I have port forwarded Ares and the first time i did it, i managed to get pretty good DL speed...about 20kb to 30 for downloading songs and up to 100kbps for a movie that is about an hour and a half long.

However, the 3rd day, my dl speed just didnt stay that way...it went to the same as before.

I tried to port forward to other ports but its not working!

What is wrong? Can someone pls help! will appreciate it a lot!

More than likely your ISP recognizes that you are downloading stuff using peer-to-peer software. Often, ISPs are running software to detect and log downloads of copyrighted material. So, if you want to download songs and movies, the downside is that your ISP may recognize that and drastically cut your download speeds if not suspend your service. Pretty much all TOS (terms of service) from ISPs now prohibit the DL of copyrighted material and have reduction, suspension or termination of service as a consequence.

I have had a similar problem, and it turned out my Netgear router was confused. Save the configuration away, say to your desktop, and reset the router. If it still doesn't work, clear the configuration, reload the router, then restore the configuration (remember you just saved it?). Oh, and make sure it looks right, or you'll be kicking yourself for doing all that work and it was just a checkbox.

If that doesn't work you have probably ticked off your ISP, in which case your upstream bandwidth is likely throttled to some low value. Nothing you can do about that except wait for a few days/weeks depending on the ISP.

Finally, I would suggest only downloading legal stuff, then you have the ability to fuss at your ISP for not providing service. =)
