Has anybody have their brakes go when they are driving?
I did today, and it was scary. I broke down when I got home.
Thank God I slammed the car into park or I would have drove straight into Shoppers Drug Mart. I just want to know if anyone out there has had the same experience as me.

My husband is a police detective and we actually have discussed this recently.....My question to you is: do you have any enemies? It's just really extremely rare that any breaks on modern vehicles fail on their own. I'm not saying it couldn't happen....I'm just saying....it's rare.
I'm glad you're alright.

No enemies, that's good! I could drain your brake fliud without cutting your hoses though! Just kidding, I'm sure it was a freak accident! (I watch too much Court TV and Forensic Files I guess!)

Yes. I was driving home from work one day. It was a 70 mile commute and I lost the brakes in the first 5 miles. I made it home without issue. The parking brake worked fine. That, and my commute home was at 1 AM (i.e. no traffic). Kind of scary, yes.

BTW- this isn't all that uncommon. The master cylinder (all the brake lines run to) fail after about 150 thousand miles or around 15 years. When they fail, your brakes only get 2 really good stops left (which will feel really hard on the pedal). Then, the pedal will just go all the way to the floor.

My daughter had the same, but in a manual car. We taught her to slow the car down using the gears (gearing down), then when doing no more than 20 Km apply the hand brake. Faster than that and you'll send the car into a spin. It worked and she did remember to do it when her brakes failed in traffic.

yup, i was pulling into a gas station when it happened, and i didnt even think to pull the emergency brake (duh!) So I had to choose between hitting a truck or a wooden fence that was built around the dumpster. I went for the fence and knocked the whole thing over! it was crazy....thats when i learned to check the fluids in my vehicle., actually i take that back. I drove that poor thing till it practically blew up from having no oil or water....I was young.
