I did contract work for a company for almost 2 years. One day they just barged in and removed their files. No reason's were ever given. They owed me close to $1000.00. To this day I still have not received my $$$$$. It will be 6 months in June. What can I do?

One answer I just received stated I should have called the police. I did that and filed a report. 3 days later I filed another one because all my phones and my fax machine had been taken and it had to of been them because one of my x employes was then working at their corporate office and someone had entered with a key. The DA would not take the case because he said my company was to ENTERTWINED with their company. HAHA. Just my luck.

2 things come to mind
1-if da wont help they should be able to give you info
on lawyers who work "low pay or slow pay"
contact a few -usually machine-and you should
get some calls back in a day or two

2-check into small claims court
it is usually $25-$50 to file but you
will be able to be heard in front of a judge
with both of you present
if the other guy doesnt show up
you will win by default/no show

have you got a copy of the contract? have you tried negotiating with the employer first? because no matter where you live in Australia the law looks good on people who try to resolve the dispute between themselves first. if you can show before taking legal action that you have tried to settle the dispute then the law will look favourably on you. but first try and contact wage line or work choices for advice and information.

Sue them. In Small Claims Court.

BTW, if they entered your premises and took files without your permission, you should have called the police. They have no right to do that; that's criminal activity!

The first thing to do is tell your employer the same thing you just stated.
Some states have very strict laws regarding payment to contractors, you might seek help from your States office of professional standards
