Hey Jen - awesome question.
Bring them home NOW. We have no biz being in a sovgn country. They are fighting the same way we would, if China invaded us, shoved a bs Constitution down r throats, then told us what kind of country we r going to b. I'd b fighting to take back my country as well.
In case u don't know Jen - we currently have troops in 140 plus countries. 140 countries!!!!!!! The plan is to NEVER leave Iraq. NEVER. We have bases along the 'proposed' pipe line. We have plans to build an Embassy larger then the vatican - cuz, WE R NEVER LEAVING!!!! The plan has always been to NEVER LEAVE IRAQ!
Jen - think about it - the reasons we r there, always change. First, WMD's. Then no WMD's. Then it was Saddam. Then we got Saddam. Then it was to have free elections. They had free elections. Then it's nation bldg. (Which Bush said, he is not into Nation bldg). Now, 'according to intelligence' it's Osma Bin Forgetton's 'people' are attacking us in Iraq. The excuses will not end - why? Because we are NEVER leaving Iraq. Americans kids r dieing for NOTHING!!! Absoluting nothing. It's not for our freedom here. Iraq was 'never' a threat to Americans on American soil. NEVER.
In WWII a 'country' bombed us - not a handful of guys from saudia arabia that committed mass murder - of which - Bush / Cheney have readily admitted - 9/11 & Iraq have nothing to do w/ one another.
Lastly, Dr. Ron Paul said it best, have Congress live up to their oath of office and 'Declare War' on 'a country'. Put everything on Congress' shoulders. They wanted the job - now have the balls to 'do the job'.

This isn't an easy question to answer.I am against the war in Iraq, however, we put ourselves in this position and we cannot simply flee. If we bring the troops home now, Iraq will be in a state worse than it already is. If we left, it would be even more chaotic. I agree that this is a negative, and sticky situation, but we cannot pack up and act like it never happened. We have to be in this for the long haul. I guess those dirty politicians should have thought about that at the beginning...but they didn't, and here we are.
It's sad. The death toll will continue to rise, as the time of the troops' stays are prolonged. I smell Vietnamesque death tolls.

I think it's odd to say that we'd suddenly lose the war if we withdrew our troops. We've been missing many goals and benchmarks for a while now, so it's not like the war's really going swimmingly.
We'd really, IMO, be cutting our losses by having as safe and secure a withdrawal as possible, and that could stop some of the negative impact that just is going to come either way because the war from the beginning, was just not a good idea. Attack a deeply divided nation only bound together by a brutal dictator? Try to flip a Shia majority, Sunni-ruled country, next to Iran no less, to our politics? Do these things while talking and acting tough against Iran and Syria, their neighbors? It's not impossible, but I'll definitely say it was a very poor idea.

There is no good answer to this. I wish I had one. Yes, I am depressed with the death toll. But at the same time if we retreat we will be defeated and that will embolden the enemy. We must finish the job or at least make the Iraqi government strong enough to stand up on its own feet without direct military intervention by the US.
I pray everyday that this will end. But I think many Americans will continue to see rising death tolls. I only hope that Americans don't make the same mistakes we made in Vietnam.

Yes. Innocent Iraqi civillians are dying--we don't even have an idea of that number which is probably terribly high but not in US "interests." Our troops are dying--everyday we hear of another 5 here, 9 there, etc.
This war has been a mess and a serious drain on our resources. We need to be able to standby in case of other flare ups, our increasing natural disaster costs, our healthcare system/costs, etc. We could be saving our money for our needs instead of wasting tons of it on an invasion that is at best confusing.
Yes. Bring our troops home. Just let it go...

If you are speaking about troops being taken out of Iraq and Iran, yes, I believe that is the most exigent solution.
The United States did not send troops into the Middle East to "win a war". The U.S. was not "at war". Troops were deployed to exterminate Sadam Hussein, using Al Quaida, Osama Bin Ladin, and other militants as a ruse.
The American public were led to believe that the United States was in "extreme" danger; when, in reality, the only people in danger were the troops America placed in "harms way" simply to financially promote the American military system. Without a "war", "confrontation", "engagement", etc., what use does America have for the military? Officers may just have to wile away their days drinking martinis at the Officer's Club; or, lol, may have to have dinner with their family, go to their sons' or daughters' band recital, graduation, etc. They might even have to spend some time with their wives!
Please don't be so naive as to believe that "career" military personnel shirk from a battle. They relish it!
The U.S. military is a huge financial "war machine", not likely to be be dissolved in my generation or my grandchildren's generation.
My oldest daughter's husband (ex) became a member of the National Guard at 18, is now an E-10 in the U.S. Army, stationed in Washington, D.C. His salary is more than I ever made teaching. He lives and breathes the Army--another Rambo!
My youngest daughter and her fist husband served in the U.S. Army for eight years. Her second husband served for 15 years. They left the military because of the "bureacracy". My oldest granddaughter's husband has served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Will he stay and become a "lifer"? Maybe. My brother was in the Navy for four years, serving during the Viet Nam War ( which also was not officially declared a "war" against Viet Nam by the U.S). My brother did not remain in the military because his wife did not like being separated from him for months while he was "out to sea".
My husband's uncle served in WWI, fighting with the French, and receiving a commendation from the French government.
George Patten, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Admiral Halsey fought to win. The U.S. is not now fighting to win anything. We are not even fighting: We (the U.S.) have been reduced to "caretakers", "baby-sitters", subjecting our military personnel to political capricousness.
If the United States has a goal to "win" in Iraq, Iran, or any other nation we take on, then I will support that goal. At the age of 66, I will even volunteer to fight; but, if we are just going to "namby-pamby" around committing ourselves, then I suggest we stay out of another country's business.

I wish you consider the Iraqi civilians killed there since the beginning of the invasion. If American soldiers are tragically dying, it is because they are in a war, and if they are dying by hundreds, Iraqis have been dying by thousands, and also consider the human rights abuse committed by American soldiers , like in Abu Gharib; I guess you may never have heard about it, because American media, with few exceptions, is evading that. Look in bbc archives, and you gonna see the pictures
The image of the United States in the world has deteriorated, perhas irrecovably, since the invasion of Afghanistan and especially Iraq. Of course, the army should withdraw. The United States and its army are not seen as promoters of the vague concepts of 'freedom' and 'democracy' (in the Bush dictionary); they are seen as colonizers and neo-imperialists.
The United States is a great country, but its foreign policy is highly disputable ans opposed

Baby Poots - your ex-son-in-law is Sergeant Major of the Army? In that case, why are you calling him "AN E-10 in the U.S. Army" and not THE E-10?
