I just found this site, I draw SSA disability and usually stay on R&S. I am an American Minister who moved to the Philippines to do both ministry and have a better life with my income.

Since I found this site just now, I have to ask (SERIOUS ANSWERS PLEASE).

Is there any of you who are "true" Christians who are disabled but would like to Minister in some way the word of God in the mission field?

Including slight mental health problems (I am bi-polor, stress on depression)

Doing your own Ministry, (or helping us) paying your own support and living better than you can in the U.S. on your disability income?

If you are and will email me with your questions I will be happy to respond,

Rev. Roy Ross

"anna k" that is a legitimate question, and the answer is "I can not" and "do not".
That is why I need help here, I am just geting back on my feet after another week of total depression and staying in bed and I decided I have to find someone who can help while I am thinking along the straight line.
My type of bi-polor keeps me down and away from people and crowds sometimes up to 3 or 4 weeks, at a time, (before the medication it was 2 to 3 months at a time along with suicide attempts). I think God for all He has done and how He has changed me, and I will do what I can when I can.
Thanks for the question.

"Rebbeca" Thank you for your response, and you are wrong. SSA disability is insurance that I paid in when I was able to work both as a police officer and military.
It makes no difference where one lives for either SSA or SSA disability.
You are also wrong about doing some kind of work (which I am not employed) but any one on disability can work and make a certain amount as long as the SSA knows and it is reported.
I would never do anything dishonest to, lie or cheat anyone including the government that I have served to protect.
You might want to check and take a look at how many SSA and SSA disabled do live in 3rd world countries simply because we can not survive in our home of America on the payments we have earned and payed for before becoming disabled.
I use my own money for any ministry that I do, I get no pay.
It would be like living in the States and having Bible study in my home when I am able.
Or is that something you think should not be done either?

God Bless

"Crabby_B" Thank you for responding. But I don't understand what you are talking about. No where do I say I am a member of any denomination (I am not) I am on my own, when I am able if asked we meet in the park someones home or our house.
I am sorry that you are upset because the church of your choice won't put up a Wheel chair ramp, but don't take it out on people you don't know.
Your upset because of a disability, read the few answers above yours and look at what people think about me because my disability is mental. They don't even think I should get the money I payed into, just because I choose to live in a third world country so I can have a little more to get by on.
So don't feel like the lone ranger, if you want to come here as a Christian and help I assure you, you would get all the help you need, if not ramps then someone will carry you in.

"Injun" How do you suppose that I am scamming money when I only have Bible studies in my home or park or what ever...Have never taken or asked for even 1cent and I am the one who gives people here money from my check for medicene and food and emergencies. The only thing I have ever gotten is Bibles from the States and (gave them away) and Cd's from some of the Southern Gospel Groups in the States so I can have them played on the little radio station here.
So please know what you are talking about before making a fool of yourself. God Bless you...

"Rob" Thanks for responding.

It is six months unless you become a resident of that country and change your address and residents with the SSA. Here is the link that should answer all your questions and I will answer any email you might want to send.

By the way there are nearly 200,000 of us living here in the Philippines alone most drawing SSA or SSA disability.

God Bless you.

"Injun" I am sorry for say you made a fool of yourself, I just read some of your answers and your profile.
You should be the first to know that there are up times and down times when it comes to mental disability. Just because I can tell people about Jesus now does not mean i will be able to in 15 minutes, I have had to stop right in the middle and send every away and be down for a week or 2, but thank God I don't hide my disability with these people and they seem to understand and still come back.
Now if you can tell me who would hire me know that I could go off at anytime or walk of the job or just not get out of bet for several weeks at a time, I would be more than happy to talk to them.
Again God Bless you.

"etpilot"-All I can say is you are wrong on all you accusations.
And your threats do no good as everything I do is known to the SSA.
I am registered with the SSA disability and the money comes directly to a bank here in the Philippines so don't you think if I was doing anything wrong they would know and tell me about it????
I will pray for you...God Bless

"ANNOUNCEMENT" - I will be removing this question in a few hours, so if anyone wants to copy it so you can "turn it in to the SSA or anybody else" GET IT DONE NOW!!
I had now idea it would cause such an uproar that I am a Christian or that I am disabled or that I live out of Country.
The time here in PI is 9:20am which means it is 9:20pm est and about 6:20 pst...so if anybody wants to get this copied so you can turn it in get it done by 12midnight est that is 3 1/2 hours from now.

"Injun" You said (Yourself) that you had been turned down for disability 4 times, for me it was once (one time is the norm for anybody) you were turned down (FOUR) WHO'S THE SCAMMER?

One serious question I have is, if you are capable of ministering fulltime, why can't you work for your income? Seriously.

I always thought "quack" was reserved for doctors. I now see it applies to "ministers", too!
Don't ministers live on funds donated by church members? You must not be much of a minister if you had to leave the USA. What legitimate minister names a ministry after himself? Hell, all you need is your own TV show; just like Jim Bakker or Jimmy Swaggart.
I assume you are married to a filipina; just one more reason to be suspect.
I'm disabled with bipolar illness but would NEVER go to a third-world country and expect to remain stable. Bipolar disorder is not a "slight" mental health problem. If it was, you wouldn't get disability for it. People like you make it hard for the truly disabled to obtain benefits; they try to weed out fraud and deny ones who really need benefits...
Yes, benefits stop if you leave the USA. You'd better close that off-shore account before I report you to the SSA! Some "true Christian" you are!!!!!

Hello.
First off, what is "R&S?"
Secondly, I am on SSDI and wasn't aware you were allowed to move to another country. I looked into it once and believe it said something about keeping benefits for six months.
I know I am not really answering a question, rather asking one, but can you live outside the US and keep benefits? Also, what are some websites with info on this?
Thanks.

I have to agree with Anne K. If you are drawing social security disability, but you are able to move to a foreign country, I think it's unfair for the government to continue paying benefits. I do not pretend to know your situation (my disability is physical, I have no experience with a disability such as bi-polar), but from what I understand, SSDI is for people unable to do ANY type of meaningful work (paid or unpaid?). If I were able to withstand the stress of moving out-of-country and begin working out there, even sporadically as you describe, I would think that SS would refuse to continue my benefits. Also, I am unaware - but do they continue benefits for any person who no longer lives in this country? You may want to check into that, so it doesn't jeopardize your current income.
I am an atheist, but I respect that you are doing something you believe in and find meaningful in your life. But with so many people here that are disabled and completely unable to work, I don't think it's fair that someone is able to draw benefits when they are able to move out of the country and work (even part time) out there.
I truly wish you and your wife the best with your ministry, but that is my view of things based on what you described of yourself.

I am a Christian--and disabled.

But frankly--no. The so-called "evangelical" churches in America have a consistant record of ignoring and belittling people with disabilities. Most of them can't even be bothered to put in a ramp for people who use wheelchairs.

So why should we help those who can't take the trouble to follow Christ's teachings?
