my best friend, who is gay also, always insists that my material interests are associated with my sexuality. he says that i like "boy" music, mainly alternative rock, and "boy" cars - ford mustangs. its annoying.

anyone else have a friend or family member who is like that?

i just dont understand why he thinks that way, considering he is gay as well

It sounds like he's subscribing to traditional ideas of what is masculine and what is feminine. Of course, the appeal of alternative rock is not limited to boys, nor does what you drive necessarily indicate anything significant about your personality.

(Unless you drive a Hummer, in which case you are automatically a despicable person.)

I have a 1967 Ford Mustang, but I don't like "boy" music, what would he think of that? Some people just seem to never grow up :)

Most of society operates with these awful stereotypes in place.
They have specific ideas of what is "appropriate" for "boys and girls" and if you don't fit into their little boxes, you are labeled "deviant."
What tends to happen if you cross these perceived gender boundaries, is that everything you do comes into question, and the common stereotype is to assume that you are also "deviant" in other categories, such as sexuality.

There is no way to tell a person's sexuality without them telling you how they identify.
Plain and simple.

Nope.

And yes. Some people just don't grow up in their thinking. They are just stuck in the 3rd Grade teasing stage of their life.
