There is no effective tick control in an outdoor environment. You may eradicate a percentage of the population for a short time, but they will always return, sometimes in higher numbers. If you remove them from their environment, their food source will flourish. When the insecticide wears off, they will be back with a huge spike in population numbers. I would just treat your dogs with a topical flea/tick/mosquito product and keep any tall weeds/seedlings mowed down. I just had a case of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (here in Raleigh, NC) and have had to battle this tick issue was well. The only real solution is to use bug spray on yourself, and check yourself and your animals after every trip outside. Other than that, you can't really do much but offer a temporary fix with potentially bad reprocussions.

I also don't know why EVERYONE on this site uses Sevin for insect control. Just because it works does not make it a good product. It is very hard on the environment and all beneficial insects/mammals in the location you are applying to (especially if you are going to apply to an entire yard). There are definitly alternative control methods available that you might just have to shop around for (maybe not at a Walmart or Target????........garden centers are there for a reason you know). Sorry to rant, but after reading so many posts on how much everyone loves Sevin, I felt the need to vent.

7 dust is bad for animals cuz it stays in "dust" form for too long and ur dogs can breathe it in! use "bug-b-gon" in the bottle that u hook to ur hose and spray away! animal and people safe within minutes of application... bug friendly or should i say deadly within minutes also!
