I don't want trash. I want something affordable. October 4-7. I've stayed at the Strat. It's just too far on the other end of the strip. I would rather something on the more populated end of the strip. No kids traveling with us. Any suggestions?

I was asked to be more specific, so here goes....
I want a nice, comfortable room, a hotel I can feel secure in, a decent pool with jacuzzi a plus (to relax) for no more than a hundred bucks a night. I'm not into spas or fancy schma ncy..just a nice place to stay.
Insane request? I'm sure it is...but it can't hurt to ask, right?

I checked your weekend through "travelaxe", this site compares most of the major discount travel sites to find you the best rate.

You can access travelaxe on the main page at this site without having to download TA.

Stratosphere - $58
Orleans - $62
Riviera - $74
Imperial Palace - $77
Excalibur - $91
Luxor - $111

The Orleans is far and away the best value, but, it's not on the strip like you want. I did include the Strat price also just for comparison.

Luxor is much nicer than Excalibur.

I don't care for the Imperial Palace, and Riviera is on the North end of the strip that you didn't like.

If you had given a price range and the amenities you're looking for, I could have given you a better recommendation. >"I don't want trash. I want something affordable"< Really does not tell me a whole lot. If you choose to "add details" to your Q I will see what I can come up with. BTW you are doing the right thing by planning well in advance, it's best to book something early then keep looking for a better dea.

I'd say Excalibur, the price is much lower than a lot of other places on the strip. Its in the populated area of the strip. You have easy access ramps across the road right to NYNY and from there to MGM and you are still really close to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Its not that far of a walk to get to the middle of the strip from there either. Also from what I saw when I was there, their casino was fairly nice.

I think the fact that you usually only use your hotel room to sleep and you are out most of the time is another good argument for staying at Excalibur if you are looking to go cheap. I'm going back to Vegas soon and I think I'm going to stay there for these reasons.

I used to go to vegas all the time, but havent been back in 9 months. From what i remember most buffets are around $25 give or take a couple bucks depending on it being lunch vs. dinner. The Paris has a good breakfast buffet. Bally's and Ceasars Palace have a pretty good lunch buffets. And most places have a Dinner buffet. As for a regular meal, ESPN Zone at the NYNY hotel is pretty good for just plain ol' american food. Just a few suggestions for ya.

go to mgm.com and sign up to be a newsletter member. This makes u a member for half the casinos on the strip. They will send u excellent deals by email!! I stayed at Mandalay Bay for $310 after tax for three nights. The same room on hotels.com was like $800-900 for three nights. Happy hunting. Sometimes u can't get the deals but in october i'm betting u can find one of there affiliates in the 80-140 a nite range.

Go to www.vegas.com this is the best deal I've found yet. I've used it, as have two of my coworkers. (And I've been going to Vegas every year since 1994)

As far as what you're looking for: Luxor, Excalibur (can be full of kids though), and MGM if they're running a special will probably be your best bets. I've stayed at the first two, and would recommend Luxor in a hot second!

The other thing to do is go the websites and sign up for their mailing lists and you'll get email specials about once a week.

Your best bet is probably going to be with the travel discounter websites (Travelocity, etc., etc.) that offer package deals. In April we did this, placing our airfares, rental car and hotel all in the same package for one price.

For two of us we paid a bit more than $1,100 for our airfare, rental car (full size car of your choice) and hotel for a 4 day stay.
Our hotel was the Las Vegas Hilton, our rental car was from Alamo and our airline was Continental (round trip). The Hilton was very nice with all emenities, including a fabulous all you can eat buffet. It is one block off the strip, but close to Circus Circus, etc. It is one of the stops on the monorail so you can go almost anywhere on the strip from there.

Considering that Oct 5th and 6th is a Friday and Saturday, good luck.

Luxor is showing $100, $140, $280 per night for those three nights.

TI is showing $239 per night.

Here we go: Circus Circus: $50, $125, $125 per night (total $300, or $100/night average)

The worlds largest Motel 6 (on Tropicana Ave): $49.39, $85.99, $85.99, total $221.37 (must be a convention in town that weekend)

Roomrates vary greatly from day to day. A room could for for $69 one day and $350 the next.

If you want a middle of the road hotel I'd say Luxor

Excalibur is really nice, and on the 'new' end of the strip. It isn't MGM, but the price is right, and it connects via skywalk to New York New York. Anywhere you want to go is within minutes. Plus, the castle theme is sort of cool.

The Flamingo is right in the middle of the strip and one of the stop on the monorail. Very nice pool and affordable.
