What an interesting question.
I'm 65, and my wife/significant other was kind enough to say I had been "less touched by age than anyone she knew about". I can think rings around practically anyone, but I fear I'm a bit like a Ford automobile...the engine is going like blazes but the parts are wearing out and falling off.
My answer would therefore have be theoretical, since I have not found out what old is yet.
No man has ever been fully grown up before 39--45. I took till 41 1/2; par is usually 45--46.
So anyone could be old due to ill health, loss of vigor, inability to do things he once did.
At any age, this could happen.
My answer is: it's possible for the mind to keep improving, and for one's talent and imagination be kept intact--but it takes work.
Such a person can age, but they're never going to be old as you mean the term.
For others--less mentally active, honest, interested, etc.--I'd say it's somewhere after 70 or even eighty, if they last that long.
Being "old"is not the opposite to being young, it's the opposite to being not-old; and that'scertainly a priorities problem--if you can still use your mind normatively at a level that serves you for life, you are NOT old; if you never learn to think honestly and to deal with reality morally and people ethically, you never grow up sufficiently.
Perhaps aging is the loss of that ability to deal with what you need to confront effectively and still have hope left afterward...

Anyone 15 years older than me is old. I use the sliding scale model of judgment.

deffinately till you are at least 50, but it depends on a person - some people are old when they are young in years and some people are young when their passports say they are much older.
