If your rent is due on the 1st then you need to leave on the 31st.

Whatever date you agreed with the landlord. If you pay your rent on the 1st of the month you'd normally move out on the last day of the last month of the lease. If your rent was due on the 15th, you've move out on the 14th.

That's the date you need to hand over the keys, i.e. be clear of the apartment, fully cleaned and ready for the new tenant.
