My favorite is HP for sure! I have had my HP Desktop cp since 2003 and I just bought a Dell laptop April of 2006 and already have had to get the disk drive, LCD screen & some other things completely replaced! I have barely used my laptop & have not been hard on it or dropped it or anything! I probably will not go with Dell again.

HP has become the number one seller. While dell is on the decline. The biggest selling point for me was being able to go to an electronics store and shop along with a bring back guarantee. I got a great buy on sale. Both seem to make high value units. I do not like the Dell marketing gimmicks like special coupons, and discounts.

For VALUE Dell, for tech support Dell, for Printers HP. HP is getting ALOT better now that Carly is gone. She took a company that was so reliable that they use an HP CALCULATOR to land the space shuttle, to a comany so bad that it was compared with emachines. Another year or two and they will catch Dell, especially now that dell is trying to chase the low end of the market.

Dell, more reliable and better support. I have used both and prefer Dell. Since HP and Compaq joined forces the quality of HP machines and their tech support has declined significantly.

Dollar for dollar (with the great deals that Dell gives), Dell all the way. Not quality based - just price for performance.

I would look at the intended use for this machine. In this day and age, if you are looking at using your machine for multimedia options such as mp3s you really need the Dell with the larger HD.
