Is this a sexist double standard? Or is it just pure capitalism in that Imus' sponsors started pulling the strings, not to mention their ads?

Im not defending either because they were both wrong. But if you were both a sponsor for the view and Imus' show, would you have pulled your ad money after their apologies? Even if they didnt apologize, would you have pulled your money?

Oh so if Rosie woulda said "you know over in harlem, theyre sayin "yo yo ni&&a dat be fresh boyee now lets go bust a caP" then that woulda been ok because she slurred the entire race and not a single group of people? I dont think that argument quite makes sense does it?

She can't make fun of the Chinese. That bit she did was despicable. But yeah, it was pure capitalism - sort of sad that advertisers, and the viewing public, actually seem to think that some racism is "better" than other racism.

The only reason Rosie gets away with what she does is because there is no Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson pushing for her to be off the air. I think they were both wrong and I think Imus should have been forgiven after he apologized. Rosie on the other hand will never apologize. I feel like people are afraid to say something back to her because she' a lesbian and would turn it into discriminating against her for that or for being a woman. Unfortunately for Imus he can't hide under any classifications. Opposite sexism and stereotyping is definetley the culprit here.

If sponsors had not threatened to pull their accounts, Imus would still be on the air. It was money, not Sharpton or Jackson who got Imus fired. If the same thing were to have happened at ABC, Rosie would have been fired long ago.

well.. to a degree it's economics why they fired him.. I think...

and I think there is some double standard...

but, me personally, I think that mimicking a speech pattern is much different from calling someone racial names...

not saying either is right... but I think one is more severe... as it seems most people do, since only a few made a big deal out of the Rosie issue...

and yes, I think you could get away with your example much more than calling someone what Imus did... you would still get some heat... but I don't think it would be as much...

The remarks that Imus made were personal in nature, he basically said the Rutgers basketball team had a bunch of "ho's" . Whereas Rosie just kind of made fun of the Chinese language, she wasn't insulting a specific person from China.

because shes a gay lib. thats why.

i would have let the economic forces keep or reject imus, not politically correctness or shake down artists like sharpton and jackson.

the producer guy was supposed to have another gig in boston, some blacks protested and scared the sh** out of the radio people and did not give him the job. so, now you know who is in charge!

There'd have to be a Chinese Al Sharpton.

No matter how fast the apologists try to tap dance around it, it's just a plain, old double-standard
