Ah, I have seen this played out before. The animal eats the endangered plant the the plant poisons the animal. As the animal dies the circle of life is complete.

Leave them alone.
Why do we human insist on thinking that animals should obey our rules, when animals wouldn't understand those rules any more than a child would?
Animals have instinct; it's all they have to go on. The rest, they just go with the flow. If an instinct tells an animal to eat a plant --or another animal-- it does so, no questions asked.
Protect animals, yes. Stop the cruelty, yes. But do not expect animals to obey our laws. That is expecting too much.

Better leave Mother Nature alone on this one....maybe she knows they are both diseased and as the animal runs off and poo poo's he/she is leaving the seeds to begin a new life...and because 'she' was able to eat she got enough energy to have one last litter to replenish her kind.....so, leave well enough alone, I say!

I would figure out a way to get him to save a little so that it can be replanted or preserved for future plants.

Ask them to stop and pose for a picture. That would be worth a pretty penny If you know what I mean.

Let nature take its course. Don't intervene. Who would know that anyway?
