A truly all time great should have proven themselves in a top domestic league, in European competition and internationally. If you take these factors into account, Puskas ranks amongst the very best. His scoring record is just astounding. 84 goals in 85 games for Hungary, 357 goals in 349 games for his first club, Kispest AC/Honvéd, and a staggering 155 in 179 games for Real Madrid. He scored in the Olympics, the World Cup, and he scored 35 goals in 39 games in Europe for Madrid. Unmatchable scoring rate, a true legend.

There were many classic football greats. I do agree that Puskas was a great, left-footed legend, but it doesn't do well to say that he was the best. What can you sat about these guys then:

Pele
Diego Maradona
Franz Beckenbauer (Inventor of 'Libero')
Eric Cantona
Just Fontaine (13 goals in a single World Cup tournamment!)
George Best
Paolo Maldini
Rudi Voller
Hugo Sanchez
Ronald Koeman
Romario
Jurgen Klinsmann
George Best

"Maradona good, Pele better, George Best!"
- Newspaper tribute to the late George Best.

Many classic greats came and went, and we cannot decide who was the best. Puskas was great but not the greatest ever. Same goes for these guys above. They played the game well and were spectacular.

EDIT: Chivas, legends are many. I listed the names I could remember. Sanchez is there now with some others
