i think i can build a desktop is it farely similar?

NOT even close. I m multiply certified and I wouldn't even do it. Desktops are easy. I BUY all my notebooks

you can not build a note book computer it is to hard and parts are hard to get also notebook are not very costly for a brand new one

no it is not... that simple.
you would have to get a case then know what motherboard would fit it. because the plugs and extensions outlet need to be in the same place
power inlet. usb ports sound in/out ports

its called a whitebook, and is muc harder to build and harder to find parts for
