Nothing special about the water, they can accept a wide variety of water conditions.

As for care instructions, there is no way to be really complete in a quick answers post so I would direct you to the following websites for excellent information.

Hope that helps and welcome to the world of bettas!

Betta fish don't need a special type of water. All you need is regular water from the sink. The best water actually for betta's are bottled water. Betta's don't like too hot or too cold water. It's better for the Betta fish to swim in room temperature.

They are tropicals, unlike goldfish, so make sure that the temperature of the room is never below 72 degrees. Make sure that he is not where the air conditioning will blow on his tank. It is really mean to keep him in a small bowl because he has to swim in his own wastes. A 1-5 gallon tank is perfect for him. Any tank taller then a 5 gallon would make it harder for him to go up to the surface to gulp air. City water has chlorine in it, which will kill him over time by destroying his gills. If you have well water, let it sit in an open bucket for a day to get the temperature the same as his water.
Try to save a little of his old water to add with the fresh. This has the good bacteria in it to help break down the waste products.

Plants add beauty to the tank, and give him a place he can call his own.

not bettas in particular but all fish need good, fresh, clean water. spring water is best but if you use tap water use aquarium conditioner (the right amount to use will be on the bottle) 1/2 of the water should be changed once a week if there is no filter. leave the fish in wile taking out half the water. use a small bucket or cup to emty the water. (do not pour it into a sink or you might pour the betta out too!) make sure to get any food remains out of the tank (it will be unhealthy for the fish and cloud the tank if old food is left in the tank)

Betta fish are very easy to take care of. Put him in a bigger bowl the pet store had him in. Put some rocks in the bottom not tiny ones. You can get these tablets called bowl buddies makes the water safe for bettas. Very easy fish to care for. If you go away for a long weekend he will be fine. The food I use for mine is Betta bio gold. Seems to like it alot. Just put 4-5 pellets in the water. They will stay afloat on the top. Dont put to many in. Clean the bowl about every 2 weeks. Have fun

A Betta is GREAT! They don't need airation, heat or special water (well, put bottled room temp water if your tap water is highly chlorinated). Just don't put in more than 1 male. Some kind of floating "water grass" would be good also. They like tunnels or caves. They only need about 4 grains of Betta food every 2 days (per fish).

1. use fresh water.
2. put in a beta-fish water chemical (they sell it in bottles at pet stores) the directions are on the bottle for how many drops to put per gallon/oz/ watever... each bottle is different.
3. NEVER put two beta fish together, even if it is male and female because, even if they mate, the female will kill the male (I don't know how to prevent that from happening)
4. clean the tank when it is dirty.
5. feed the beta store bought food, and follow the directions, don't just leave a plant for them
6. have some stuff in the tank with them, like a plastic flower and some marbles.

good luck!

ok. Get only one betta because they fight. Feed them fish flakes or those little tablets. Brine shrimp do as well.
Feed them one time in the morning and another one in the early afternoon. Just a little bit. But remember too clean the bowl.
They don't need special water just fresh water.

No, they do not need "Betta Water" to thrive. Betta Water supposedly has "oxygen" in the water. They are labyrinth fish and only need to get oxygen from the surface. You just need to add spring water with conditioner added to it.

not sure what you mean about special type of water ... theres only one that i am aware of, H2O (youre not a school teacher are you? ;) ).

but they are tropical fish and do need a heater to live more than a few months.
temp should be about 77 - 83F
PH - 6.5-7

tap water is fine if you use a water ager/conditioner.

p.s. goldfish have a lifespan of 18- 20 years... so it died for a reason. you should try to find out what the reason was, or other fish you put in the tank could die too.
goldfish need a PH of 7, and they need to be treated for diseases like fungal and backterial infections when they are sick (like every fish). overfeeding will also kill them.
