Parallels is a software program that allows you to run Windows on your Macintosh computer. If you plan to use Windows or think you might need it in the future, $9.99 is a great price.
It usually sells for around $79 or $89 brand new.

Parallels Desktop lets you use Windows on your Mac . That's about all I know about it. There is another program Apple made that's in beta form called boot camp which make a separate partition on your hard drive for the windows os

I would recommend one of the two because Macs don't have the best program compatibilty

Its a Virtual Machine, allows you to run Windows or Linux under a virtual machine using part of your hard drive to store the container.

Example, You start up OSX, then you create a virtual machine, inside this VM, you can install Windows XP and it will run just like XP, with the exception of whatever you do inside this VM, its isolated from your OSX.
