I believe someone gave the answer already.. (and people... when someone posts a question like this they are speaking collectively... not individually... so keep them Hemp panties on) It boils down to substance.. libs live in a sort of dream land where not all their ideas are bad... but most are unrealistic... and when someone swoops in with a bag full of reality and common sense... it kind of rains on their parade.... and if your a kid at a parade and it starts raining.... well, you throw a fit and call names. (see... my post could be considered mean spirited... but it's actually called truth when dealing with facts.

I think we react to how we are treated.
I don't speak for every liberal, but if I am personally attacked simply because of being seen as a liberal, I get a little defensive. I will attack when provoked.
I also think that many more conservatives are mean spirited than liberals, seeing the questions and comments on Y!A. Overall, I think the meanness is equal on both sides - no one side is more guilty than the other.

because they are people... I'm more liberal... and I've been called many nasty names by conservatives...
so what does that all prove? nothing really, just that there are a lot of immature people in both parties...
and odds are if you get called more names by one group than another... your beliefs are closer to the group that doesn't call you names... because they all call names...
if you get called nasty names by everyone, you're in the middle

I'm a proud conservative and I think all liberals are mean spirited. I hate them all, wish they were all dead, and would like to rip out their mean-spirited hearts and rub it in their mean-spirited faces.
Have a nice day :)

I think it goes back to the Republican takeover of congress in 1994. They had long thought that the House at least was theirs by right. When they lost the house, they just lost it & still haven't got it back.

I wouldn't let Rosie O'Donnell inspire such broadstroked chracterizations. Truth is both sides are mean spirited given the ideological struggle we are all locked into. But if I had to pick who is meaner? It's the conservative talking heads. And no, I am not a liberal either.

Because they live totally by the flesh and not the spirit.
Flesh is sinful and if we let it control our lives we will engage in many harmful activities that will ultimately lead to self destruction.
But once a person is deep in sinning by the flesh it is almost impossible for them to stop and turn back.
Some of the sins of the flesh are:
Violence,homosexuality,
gambling,alcoholism
and drug addiction,pornography,
rape,murder,child and spousal abuse,
sex,profanity,hate,
pride,slander,food addiction,
selfishness,greed,self loathing,lying,
cheating,stealing,
thirst for power to control others,
anger,greed for money,
materialism etc.
People who allow themselves to engage in sins of the flesh are deceived into beleiving that it is good for them and feels good to do them but it comes at a very great cost to their life and to their souls.
People who enjoy these types of things despise anyone who tries to stop them from doing it and since they don't have any real ethical ground to stand on to defend their actions they resort to insults and anger.
People don't like to be told what they are when what their doing is really bad and they totally enjoy doing it.
They become mean and hateful and are in some cases capable of violence when confronted about their unholy or destructive actions.
I've learned that if they observe your actions and they don't see anything about you that compares to their immoral behavior they will hate you for it and will try to do everything possible to slander and harass you until you are no longer in their presence.
"Birds of a feather flock together"
Especially when they're a Liberal.

This is such a sweeping generalization. *Yawn* I've been called nasty names by Conservatives, but I am smart enough to realize that not all Conservatives behave in the same manner.

Okay, here we go:
Some liberals are mean-spirited. Some liberals are not mean-spirited. Some conservatives are mean-spirited. Some conservatives are not mean-spirited. Some questions are stupid.
I hope you don't think that was mean-spirited.
