I looked around, but I cannot find any quotes.

I suggest you do some research on the "Korean DMZ." (demilitarized zone). It is a small chunk of land inbetween North (communist) and South (not communist) Korea.

During the Korean War the border between the two countries changed frequently due to successes and failures in battles. The DMZ is the current border and has been more or less unchanged since the war.

Anyways, if there were any gates that soldiers passed through to fight the North Koreans and Chinese it would probably be on or near the DMZ.... it certainly would not be any further south than the DMZ because the Chinese did not push us past the 38th parallel.. which is where the DMZ is.

I know this does not really answer your question but I hope it is helpful to help you focus your research.

Oh, and by the way.. it happens that during the Korean War it was the ONLY known time throughout the Cold War that Americans and Soviets directly fought. There were Soviet Pilots fighting on the side of the Chinese/North Koreans against American pilots. Several were killed. I know that has nothing to do with your question but it's more or less just to correct the dude above me. Check out a book by Colonel John Hughes-Wilson called simply "The Cold War" for more info on that.

There never was a direct military engagement between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but there was a half-century of military buildup, and political battles for support around the world, including significant involvement of allied and satellite nations. In other words, there was never any fighting, instead, it was more a war of words, and political battles.
