Political posturing. Simple as that.
Al Gore distanced himself from Clinton - and lost.
If Bush is proved correct and his policies are successful in the Middle East, the trend will be reversed so quickly, you'll hardly remember that Bush had any criticism from his peers - and certainly, none of them will ever admit to jumping on the Bush bashing band wagon. They will revert back to their stand immediately following the events of 9/11, when they authorized the invasion in the first place.
Politics - isn't it great stuff?

Bush is political kryptonite. They have a duty and a loyalty to their party but also recognize Bush as a highly volatile president because of Iraq. I guess in an oblique way, their arm's length attitude toward Bush is a validation of just how unpopular is Iraq and the Bush presidency.

The media thinks Bush is bad. Constituents listen to the media. Candidates want to be elected. They are swayed by the media. There you go.

Because Pres Bush has pissed off conservatives for a variety of reasons. Also, you have idiot Republicans who falsely believe they need to be moderate. What they need to be is real Republicans.

Bush is a loser.
Well, okay, maybe some people think he's TRIED....
and, if he's TRIED, I guess that doesn't make him a loser.
It makes him a failure. -RKO- 05/27/07

Because, unfortunately, to get re-elected, they need votes from haters like you. That's why, for example, Clinton and Obama didn't vote to fund the troops.
