The job is to stablize the Iraqi government, remove the radical element who think killing innocent people is actually a legitimate lifestyle choice, ensure a functioning infrastructure (roads, bridges, power & water distribribution, etc.). None of these things are new. This has been clear from the outset. How do I know that and you don't? I'm really not sure. It's also been clear that this would not be a short and easy war. I remember seeing the President say that.
These are complex things, I know. But whatever the definition of victory is in Iraq, we need to get behind it and support it. If we don't, we're admitting that we want a US defeat. None of us want that.....right?
On a side note...this talk about is oil is ridiculous and simple minded. If you truly believe oil has anything to do with it, why don't we just take their oil? We are there, we're located in/near oil fields and piplelines. Why don't we just send that oil back to USA? Or do you think that George Bush is saving for later, so he can sell it make a lot of money??? Yeah, that sounds right.....

The job is saving President Bush's legacy. This war will define his presidency. He has staked our reputation and prestige on it. That is why he cannot let go. The next president will be in a tought spot. He (or she) won't want to be the one who lost Iraq. The price tag will be over two trillion, eventually. Think of the good that money could do at home. Iraq is a money pit, and there is no end game. A less arrogant president could have avoided this. He listened only to that close knit group around him. His own father advised against overthrowing Hussein. He knew the chaos it would lead to.

If you are a Democrat, the "job" is to make sure we lose while Bush is still in office. Democrats seem willing to sacrifice the lives of our military and our future security in order to gain power for themselves. Sounds harsh, but I don't know how else to explain why prominent leaders of our government would take every opportunity available to incite our enemies to keep fighting by telling them things like Bush lied, war for oil, a war concocted for political gain, we are torturing innocent captives, our troops sneak into houses and terrorize women and children, the list goes on and on.
The "job" would be done when Iraqi's can maintain security for themselves and the seed of democracy is planted in that part of the world and starts to spread through the region. Unfortunately, I don't think the Democrats will let that happen.

the job is probably bush's last ditch attempt to save his reputation first and then America's reputation iraq is a goner from the occupation of Baghdad and dismantling of the baathist govt bush lost the war when IED's and car bombs began showing up at populated places and then the inevitable spiral down of the law and order. i think its gonna end up mostly like vietnam
set up a peace treaty for coalition withdrawal
civil war continues between shia's sunnis and kurds
shia's and kurds setup alliance with iranian backing shia's victory sunnis are ethnically cleansed and war or low scale conflicts break out between arab nations america helpless to do anything but america will have a hell of a lot to pay in the future win or lose iraq the fire in the arabs will rage endlessly until they get revenge

"The job" isn't to bring democracy to Iraq. "The job" isn't to fight 'terrorists'. All that hyperbole is just to stir up emotions in people and let the Bush administration do whatever it damn well pleases.
"The job" - from the very beginning - was to 'get even' with Saddam Hussein for criticizing, ridiculing and humiliating George H.W. Bush during Desert Storm.
"The job" - from the very beginning - was to steal all of Iraq's OIL so that Cheney and his Exxon-Mobil buddies could get richer and richer and richer feeding America's addiction to cheap, easily-accessible foreign OIL;
"The job" was to boost the profits of the giant U.S. military-industrial complex for companies such as McDonnell-Douglass, Lockheed Martin and Sikorsky - as well as generate fresh profits for two 'newcomers' to the roster of government contractors: Halliburton and the Carlyle Group (both of whom have direct ties to the Oval Office). "The job" won't be finished until we've sucked every drop of OIL from Iraq's sands. That's why we're building the largest U.S. embassy in the world on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the 'new' puppet government installed by the Bush administration. We're going to maintain a military presence there for decades, if not generations (depending on how soon Iraq runs out of OIL). "The job" has just begun! -RKO- 05/25/07

The objective is to convince the radical elements of Islam that they can no longer slaughter thousands of innocent men, women and children around the world with impunity.
A long overdue policy of a completely justified response to their tactics.
Perhaps, in the end, a democratic government will provide the young Muslims an alternative to terror, and help stabilize this volatile region once and for all.

Its not just one job. A military operation is a little more complicated than you think.
Saddam was captured and tried. Iraq is clear of WMD's, and even a democracy is up and running! Sounds like a win to me! We just have to make sure the job is done and it all stays glued together.

The "job" is to leave Iraq with a stable democratic government and to rid the country of terrorists. Unfortunately, these two goals seem more and more unobtainable, and are costing American lives, and a huge amount of money.

Don't know. it does not seem to be defined.
President George Bush is too wishy washy and things keep changing. First weapons of mass destruction, then terrorism, now...
Who knows exactly what the job is?
From my viewpoint we cannot "win" anyway. we've already lost and the politicians are too embarrassed to admit it.
Its a lose lose situation and things are not getting any better according to news reports.
