I got a new computer, my old one is dead and I cannot make a back-up disk. I have authorized my new computer and I still can't view my old purchases I made on my old computer.

Any tips?

You can't access your library from another computer;
take the old computer to a shop and find out if they can retrieve your files -- otherwise you are out of luck.

you cannot get the iTunes purchases from the store again. If you didn't backup your stuff and your old hard drive is toast then you have lost them.

Always back up important stuff - iTunes even reminds you to do this and encourages it when you download. Back-up disks need to be made when your computer works to protect you against such accidents as has happened to you. Hopefully you've learned a lesson and will regularly back up the things that are important to you.

When you authorize a new computer, the new computer is now allowed to play previously purchased songs from iTunes and of course new purchases but the new computer SHOULD HAVE THE SONGS FIRST BEFORE IT CAN PLAY THEM.

EX: Your new computer is like a new driving license. it can let you drive old cars and new cars but you have to have your old car with you first before you can drive the desired old car. So what you should do is transfer some of your purchased songs on your new computer and it will play them since the new computer is authorized to do that.
