Does it really make a difference having a 100 GB 5400 RPM hard drive or a 100 GB 7200 RPM? If you would have to choose (for the same price) a 160 GB 5400 RPM hardrive or 100 GB 7200 RPM, wich one would you and why??

Depends on your needs. If you STORE alot of pics and music, go for the higher storage. If youre going to edit photos, music, video, if you are going to play hd intensive games, go fr the 7200. The analogy is sorta like a sports car or a 4x4. One does something better than the other, but the other does something better than the first. he choice for ME is WD Raptors. Ultra high reliability and speed, but relatively small storage. YOU CAN ALWAYS BUY AN EXTERNAL HD FOR CHEAP IF STORAGE IS WHAT YOURE AFTER, BUT YOU CANNOT MAKE A SLOW HD FASTER

Choose the 160 GB 5400 RPM since you won't notice lots of difference in speed between 5400 RPM and 7200 RPM.

have you seen how some laptops, although the same kind of processors and memory, they seem to take longer to load up programs? is because of the transfer rate, is lower on 5400 rpms than 7200rmps, scsi drives run at 15000rpms, that's what servers use.

if you have enough RAM in your system, and you really need the space, get the bigger HD, otherwise, get the faster.one

There really is not difference in 5400 or 7200 if there is a difference its very slight and it would have to do with indexing. I suggest you get the cheaper one with more storage.

Here are some comparison charts http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/04/23/notebook_hdds_deluxe/page7.html

7200 rpm drives are faster but use more energy so it is a trade off.

the 7200 rpm one would be slightly faster, but probably not enough for you to notice.

160GB, purely for the sake of higher storage space
7200rpm drives ARE faster as they spin faster, data In/Out will benefit
