What does the world owe America?

The world we live in today is to a large degree, an American accomplishment.

- America rebuilt Japan after WW2 - now they are the worlds second largest economy and one of Americas strongest allies.

-America rebuilt all of Europe after WW2 - after supplying the Europeans with the means to fight a war in the first place - and now most European countries are decidedly pro-American - as well as very strong allies.

-America protected the entire continent of Europe from the USSR for 60 years after WW2.

-Americas military might enabled European countries to focus on their socialist health care and education systems - as America and the American tax payer paid out the *** for the defense of Europe and Asia - only to be spit on by these same people 50 years later.

Has the world ever lived as peacefully as it has under Pax Americana? At any point in history???


-And yes - even today America does the dirty work all over the world - only to be hated for it tomorrow.

Who on earth have you been talking to ?

Is this the America that carried out guerrilla warfare in order to gain the freedom to govern themselves?
Is this the America that ethnically cleansed a continent to give themselves room?
Is this the America that used atomic bombs and contaminated entire countries with chemical weapons, just to make a point?
Is this the America that spends the rest of the world's resources, defending itself?
Is this the America that attacks other nations in order that they themselves might not be attacked?

Yes - even today America does the dirty work all over the world.

Oh, I don't know, possibly because you think the entire world owes gratitude to America for turning up LATE to two world wars and starting countless others around the world in the 'defence' of democracy.
And from the tone of your 'America is great' post, I'll assume you didn't know that every penny (including interest) that the Americans supplied to Britain during and in the aftermath of the second world war has now been fully repaid and we owe you precisely f*ck all. We've supported your economy with repayments for sixty years, so war support was hardly America doing us a favour, was it?
I'm not sure where these pro American European countries you're talking about are... The new President of France is pro American, that doesn't make France pro American. Tony Blair is pro American, but I can assure you that what he thinks is very rarely what the rest of the country thinks.

Pax Americana. Don't be so big headed. Where do you see peace? I don't see America being pre-eminent in the world for hundreds of years as the Romans were. Your nation makes enemies faster than rabbits breed.

You certainly cherry pick your history and interpretation of it. Will do Japan first and the strongest Allie how many times have the Japanese armed forces fought alongside US troops. The Marshall plan for rebuilding Europe was generous and far sighted,also stopped a global recession. Supplying arms to Europe don't you mean selling them for gold and technical expertise. America started an arms race which the USSR felt obliged to join,after the 20 million of it's people killed in WW2 that was the reason behind the Iron curtain. The Health and welfare benefits of European country's are paid for from general taxation, not by the USA and its $500billion yearly defence budget. The world was also a lot safer when the USSR was in being and held back imperialist America

What planet are you from? America is responsible for most of the conflict around the world. Britain stood alone against the Germany during world WW2, begging the USA for help, it got rich by supplying Britain with armaments, which took decades for us to repay. After Japan bombed Pearl Harbour they had no choice.Now you are telling us that the Americans won the war for us. Just as your Hollywood films re-write history so do you.
Tell me one conflict the Americans started have they won?
Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan & now Irak. Oh yes are you saying desert storm was a victory all by yourselves? If Bush senior had not been so liliy livered and had listened to his own generals as well as his allies, gone into Bagdad & taken out Saddam we would not be fighting in Arak now.

It would have made more sense to have finished the job in Afganistan where now the Taliban going from strength to strength. Because of the Americans the rest of Europe despises Britain through no fault of the British people. One last note, Britain & France also had nuclear weapons so we were not afraid of the USSR, once again you make inacurrate claims.

If America keeps its nose out of other peoples affairs and feeds its own starving ppl who live on its streets that would be a miracle. American way of looking after its homeless is by making it illegal to store possessions in public I could go on.
What does the UK owe America for WW11 Nothing, the last of our war debt was payed back last year..It was nothing to do with helping the UK it was a buisiness deal a loan nothing more...As for Japan attacking Pearl Harbour, The USA government allowed this to happen for an excuse to get into the war and take all ther glory, same as they done in the last year of WW1.
America has caused more suffering in this world than any other country in the whole of history.

If the Americans would stop interfering in other things, quote "If it's not American......" and treating different races, creeds, colours and nations as PEOPLE not none W.A.S.P. things, they might start to gain a little respect, eventually.

I could go on about the behaviour of American troops in both world wars, far east, middle east, Vietnam (Mai Lei) etc. Funding of 'terrorist' organisations that are sympathetic to American causes, usually right wing ones, or ones that will win 'votes' at election time (Ireland) - People seem to have forgotten NOR-AID, happy American funding for the TERRORIST organisation "The IRA / INLA" that happily bombed their so-called allies across the pond.

I refuse to even read the rest of the examples, because you started with Japan as an example. Let us not forget who bombed the heck out of Japan, and killed civilians there with atomic bombing. That act alone disgusts me. I can't even begin to say how much. And now you claim Japan owes the USA, (not America that's a CONTINENT) Isn't the rebuilt Japan making loads of money for people from the USA.?! Which people get all that money?! The Japanese only? Poor Japanese people? No.

Wherever did you get the fanciful idea that other countries, the European countries are 'pro-America'? Have you considered that perhaps many of them are not at all, or that the people in them aren't? Please get your facts straight.

Have you considered that the USA sets up wars to ruin other countries in the first place?

Yes, you are correct in some of your points...

America contributed hugely with men and material in WWI and WWII. It should be noted though that in both of those wars they came in 2 years late and only after they were attacked.

The post war support was excellent for the defeated countries.

You make no mention of the fact that the Russians lost more lives than the total of all of their allies and enemies in WWII.

Peace under Pax America?? Mmmm, not Americas fault. As you say America has contributed hugely for world peace in the 20th century. However, the 20th century saw more wars and deaths than any other period in history.

Americans hated! I'm Canadian and I most certainly do NOT hate Americans. We have many friends in the US and I have travelled there on business and vacation for 36 years.

They are wonderfull people, generous, friendly, intelligent.

Its not the people! Like all wars, the people can get along, but the politicians can't.

I would say that many of those countries would disagree with you to certain degrees...

you have some valid points... and many overhyped points...

France helped us in the Revolutionary war (which we really needed at the time)... yet we hate them...

time changes all...

and South America and Africa have been pretty much screwed and in constant war and raped by Amercian and Europe... I'm sure they loved "pax Americana"...

Ok kid, this is your free history lesson.

The world of the pax america has known one year of relative peace, 157 major wars world wide (37 of them a direct result of either American policy or direct intervention), the spectre of nuclear annihilation and we have had to endure the constant whining of undereducated American tourists as well.

The Pax Britanica lasted a century... and during that time we did a fairly good job of keeping the peace.

Id advise against mentioning the two world wars if i were you.

in the first world war you came in for the last year, by which time the hunger blockade of germany by the royal navy had mostly brought germany to its knee's. by 1917 the RN had got a working convoy system going so we were in no danger of straving to death and even if your million men were not there to help hold back the last german offensive the buggers would have run out of steam before paris..and bullets before that.

During 2nd WW you were helpful only after you had sucked every last penny out of the British empire, also id point out that you were next to useless in north africa, had to be led by the hand into tunis and were still requiring supervision during operation husky (sicily). By 44 you were able to be left to play in europe with out british supervision. You did manage japan ok tho, after a very shaky start.
As to winning WWII only the Russians can claim that honour (and the price they paid was 14 million men..so DONT YOU DARE ARGUE THE POINT WITH ME)... We had it easy in the west compared to the easten front. Dont try to say that your Atomic bombs Won the war..they didnt, but they did shorten it. Russia had the bomb soon after and the germans were only about a year away in 1942 (thank Norway and its resistance..NOT AMERICA.. that they were stopped.)

We dont spit on you yank... but we do hate your incredibal arrogance and lack of historic awareness of any event outside america or outside the americans sight.

Ps... we (the british) have done peacekeeping in more then 90 locations world wide since 1945.. your "contribution" has been Korea (with the rest of the worlds help) Vietnam (and we all know how good you were out there on your own!) Grenada (well done..you invaded a british commonwealth country. you ought to have asked our advise for that one) the two gulf wars (with british and colilition help) afganistan (british help)...oh and the cold war ? Well the rest of the world helped on that one... british nukes, french nukes , oh and china...with its small army of 300 million incl reserves... from 1962.

ps .The bomb was co-developed with the allies, the majority of all the kit your military uses today is european in design origin except the m16 and the colt 45.. the brits and germans invented jets, the germans rockets, the brits gave your navy most of its carrier technology (angled flightdecks, mirror landing system, steam catapults, DO YOU WANT ME TO GO ON? I could keep this up all night m8.

ps the marshal plan was your idea... but the money to rebuild europe didnt all come from you, as to rebuilding japan...didnt you flatten it in the first place? we did the same to dresden, but we dont ask the german to kiss our backsides just because we won the war.
