Relationships are important to everyone. We're a social species; humans can't survive alone. In fact, being completely alone, like a shipwreck survivor on a deserted island or the last person left alive after nuclear war, is generally considered one of the worst things possible.
In our society, men aren't supposed to be into things like feelings and relationships. That's supposed to be women's duty. It's silly. Of course men care about relationships- they wouldn't be sane humans if they didn't. Independence is all well and good, but none of us are truly, completely independent.

I'd like to think it is because of companionship, but depending on the age, I think most men want a woman for sex in their youth.
Hopefully by the time they grow up, they are seeking a companion, a friend to have a special relationship with them. Everybody needs love.

You need to take biology. Men's genetic immortality is tied-up in " getting a woman ". The ultimate reasons we do things are still initiators of human behavior. Women have this issue, too, but they are the reproducers, not the donors.

With some men, it's a competition. He doesn't really want her, but he doesn't want anyone else to have her......Not all men. Some really want a relationship, if they're mature enough to handle it.
