I t's rare. But,it sometimes happens when one team leads an oponent by big scores, already used many pitchers, in a late inning.
It's his part time job.I remember Jose Canseco and Wade Boggs once did pitch on a mound against oponents, hitters.

So,who is the last potision player to become a pitcher?
I hope you can tell me when. Is it last year?

No position player took the mound in 2006.

The only one in 2005 I can find was Sean Burroughs, who took the mound for San Diego on the receiving end of a 20-September demoltion in Colorado. Moved from 3B to pitcher opening the bottom of the eighth, San Diego losing 17-1. Gave up a single, single, 3-run homer to Matt Holliday, flyout, groundout, single, and flyout, for a final score of 20-1. Didn't do very well but certainly didn't hurt the cause, as the Pods had been down 15-0 after the third.

Well i remeber in the 2005 NLDS the Houston Astros vs. the Atlanta Braves, in that 18 inning game, they were considering pitching Lance Berkman because he used to pitch when he was teen, but instead they put in Roger Clemens..... wich was a way smarter move
