x^2 + x - 30
=x^2+6x-5x-30
=x(x+6)-5(x+6)
=(x+6)(x-5)

so:(x^2 + x - 30)/(x-5)
=(x+6)(x-5)/(x-5)
=x+6

first you have to factor the top of the fraction. When you factor it, it equals

(x - 5)(x + 6)

When you divide that by (x - 5), you can cross out the two (x - 5)s, and you are left with x + 6, the third one

(x^2 + x - 30)
------------------
x - 5)

you have to factor (x^2 + x - 30)

(x + 6 ) (x - 5)
-------------------
x - 5

because the x - 5 cancel each other out, your answer is

= x + 6
