In my opinion, mollies or guppies are the best. The best ratio for either of these types is 3 (or more) females to 1 male. If you get one male and one female, the male will never leave her alone and she'll die trying to avoid him.
I'm not certain how to tell the difference between the male and female molly, so I won't be much help in that department. However, male and female guppies are easy to tell apart. The males have the flowing tails and pretty colors while the females are pretty dull looking. I wouldn't house mollies and guppies in the same house, mollies tend to be semi-aggressive and will tear apart guppy tails and fight with them.
Good luck finding a pet store that will sell you the 3 to 1 ratio of guppies, too. Most stores I dealt with in the past would only sell guppies as a male/female pair, not 1 male and 3 females. I was able to convince one store that 2 females was actually a pair once, but that was a long time ago.

Live bearing fish are by far the easiest to breed but the trouble is saving the fry from the mother when they are born. I would choose Mollies and Swordtails over Guppies and Platys because they are larger and the fry come out a little larger so they tend to be easier to find in a tank and rescue from the mother.
Other fish you might try are Danios, or Convict Cichlids. Danios breed with little effort on a owners part but will eat their eggs if they get a chance. Use larger gravel or even marbles for your aquarium substrate to provide spaces that the eggs can fall into for protection till they hatch. Convicts will also breed with little effort. They do not eat their own eggs or babies and are good parents when they are protecting their fry.

You are looking for livebearers. Guppies, mollies, platys, and swordtails are your best bet. Ask the pet store owner if they add salt to their water, mollies usually need a little salt (not a saltwater fish) to keep them happy and healthy. If you want the babies to survive and not be eaten, then either separate the pregnant fish in a breeders net or put in a lot of plants for the babies to hide in. 3 females to 1 male is the best ratio, ask the fish person which is which.

Guppies are a good fish to get. You wan1 male to 3 female if you have 1 and 1 the male will keep chasing after the one female and will stress her out.

Guppies would be the number 1 answer certainly. Many other fish breed very easily as well, but none quite so easily as guppies.

Get a couple female guppies and 1 nice fancy male. Or pick out pregnant females from pet store. In a few months time you'll have more guppies than space to house them. ><>:)

I had a tank with three black mollies and every freaking week I noticed little black specs floating around in it. So I would clean the water...i bought new filters, and nothing. Till a friend came by one day and said they were little black mollie babies. I had to buy a seperate container for them but damn, those things multiplied daily!
