The Moors were the Muslim inhabitants of some of North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia). They invaded Spain sometime around 700 and pushed all the way into France before being stopped cold by Charles Martel in 732.

It was only back from there, the reconquest of Spain finishing in 1492.
