If you can't tell then it dosen't matter!!!!!
Keep in mind you are looking at a COMPUTER SCREEN. No "people" here. Certainly you don't think a computer has a "gender" do you?

The user ID is usually cut off so you only get to see the 1st part. It's worse when females use a male's face. It conjures up the wrong sex image.

Yeah and I also have trouble knowing if some people are straight... example a woman says: Because I yadyyada and I want her back because i love HER and i need HER. It's kinda confusing sometimes.

It can be pretty confusing at times especially when they have a picture of something that looks masculine and it's really a female behind the computer and vice versa.

Sometimes, but it doesn't bother me. If I like them I like them.

There's someone on my contact list that is supposedly a guy (has male avatar and screen name), but there is a rumour going around that it is actually a woman. I really don't care - I like his/her questions and answers, and I think they are a very funny person who makes me laugh. His or her gender is irrelevant to me.

No, I just lift up everyones' shirt so I know with whom I am talking to.......OH...you mean on yahoo? whoops

mmm ahem....I just go with the flow and try to NOT use gender talk in case I get it wrong. I use the word YOU a lot....it is safer that way.

Sometimes. That's why I have such a brutally handsome and hairy-chested avatar.

Generally no, though I've been called a girl a couple of times and can't imagine why.
