In short it would be like recording yourself singing a vocal of a song and then adding it to an instrumental version of the song ,making it complete.

The best instrumentals that offer up sad memories? Apache- The Shadows Tin Pan Alley/Little Wing- SRV Little Martha- Allman Brothers Out of these, Tin Pan Alley will convey pain without having a memory associated with it. It's just that good. Not an instrumental, but listen to "Daddy's Hands" by Holly Dunn; you'll never be the same...Can't listen to it without busting with tears.

There are devices, and therefore there should be programs, that assume that the voice is equally placed on both stereo channels while the instruments are mostly one or the other and thus remove the common sound. Can't name one. Probably something with karioke in the name.
There are, of course, thousands of recordings available with either the voice or a musical instrument taken out on one track and included on the next for practising - "Music Minus One" and for church and other amateur presentations

To separate instrument tracks from an already mixed track, is like trying to separate a blended paint color.

Unless you can have an access to the multi-track master (or a minus one mix if there's any) of the song. It's just not possible.

Are you referring to the Karaoke Filter? A lot of audio editing software carries it, but it’s somewhat difficult. It works by filtering out the human voice from the stereo channels, but it doesn’t work too well sometimes. If you have Nero Smartstart, the audio editing programs have a Karaoke Filter.
