There's a song by Don Henley called "End of the Innocence', With a line that goes, "when happily everafter fails....we've been poisoned by these fairy tales." I agree.

Kinda like telling them to believe there is a bearded old man up on the clouds, controlling everything and keeping all his little lambs safe until we die and we get happy little wings and go live on the clouds with Grandma and Fern Kellerson - the boy who got hit by a drunk driver while riding his bike last fall and died and his father hasn't really stopped drinking since.

Meanwhile, we're destroying this planet with our pollution and mass consumption and ignoring that fact that there are madmen ruling the Free World and babies being dumped into the gutters in places like China and over a million of God's species will be extinct by 2050 unless we snap out of the faerie tale we're already living in and do something.

Wow, I really needed to get that off my chest. Namasté.

I don't tell them to believe in faerie tales. I tell them that people made up lots of stories "once upon a time", to explain what was going on around them or just to entertain themselves.

Why? Do YOU believe in trolls and evil witches who bake children in ovens?

Because there was once the dream that we always wanted our children to have. To give them happy thoughts, what a bunch of lies... Now is just propaganda on the corporations part to keep the lies going and for them to make money....

Prince Charming...Hmmmm sometimes a wolf in sheeps clothing.....easily given in by the smell of the wrong sheep...

I never told them to believe in the stories. Stories are just a way of sparking the imagination and instilling a love of reading.

Childhood should have a certain amount of wonderment in it. There's plenty of time for reality to take hold and make them jaded.

I don't have kids but when I do I will be mindful of what kinds of fairy tales I tell them. I don't want to tell my daughter that a handsome prince is going to sweep her away and take care of her when she grows up. What kind of message is that?!

Probably the same reason we tell them to believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. It makes them happy and really that is all we want for our children. xD

It is pleasant and positive for them to hear and later helps them want to learn to read on their own. WIth the world we live in, there's nothing wrong with trying to give a child a little happiness. God Bless!
