There are a multitude of banks in China that issued banknotes over the years. In addition, what you are describing could easily be something called a 'Hell Banknote'. These aren't real banknotes - when someone dies, it is traditional to burn them at the funeral to provide the deceased with spending money in Heaven. (I'd rather have a Hell credit card with no limit, myself...Don't stay dead without it...)
