Yes, and it usually means they're lacking in something else and insecure with themselves.

I have been around people that flaunt their educational background. They use big words when a simple one will do or use hand gestures way too often to make their point. An example: "Yes, all of us "University" women get together once a month." (Don't forget to punctuate university with your fingers high in the air!) This made me chuckle, since the person doing this doesn't even have a job. The best education is getting out in the world, among common people who can teach us what life is all about. Caring, sharing, helping, struggling, or sacrificing for your family can teach us more than any classroom.

Oh yes- I remind them its "rude" to flaunt or judge others by that personal standard.
A brilliant mind, does not need a piece of paper to validate a lifetime of knowledge and application to be a "master" in a field.
My Best friend is always "talking down" people for their lack of education and its insulting, that self absorbed action forces me to distance her from me.
The opposite reaction she wants, I tend to not marvel at her accolades and wonder what low-self esteem issue is the root of her actions. I do not ask her questions regarding that "speciality" since often it comes at a high price of brow beating.

Oh yes many times, just ignore them. Their pride suffers a little, but never mind.Or show them something you know they don´t know so much of and let them know that. But I think the best way is to ignore everything they say. Try it, good luck!
