The government has kept a lot of information from the public due to censorship and "top secret" orders. I think that most Americans have no need to know certain information that is obtained through intelligence sources and military informants. The trouble with the government is that some information is "leaked" to the news media and they have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. Why is some information leaked is something we will never understand - however - sometimes it is "leaked" to influence what an enemy will or won't do on the battlefield. I also believe the "battlefield" is a continuous problem and very few know what the real truth may be.

Yes!!!!
President Bush, without so much as issuing a press statement, on May 9 signed a directive that granted near dictatorial powers to the office of the president in the event of a national emergency declared by the president.

I think most of the secrets that are being kept, are probably not really in the interest of being in the public's information stream. I mean, what the heck do I need to know about the SR-71's actual top flight speed???

Of course it is, it always has. Some of the secrets I would like to know, some I am glad not to know. The government will always keep secrets from civilians. Even our troops don't know all the secrets.

Oh, NO! Are you saying you 'thinks' our government LIES to us, deceives us, keeps secrets from us??? Oh, Heaven forbid! I 'thinks' you might be right!! I 'thinks' the government is controlled by wealthy elitists who will keep us in the dark about everything until we stop worrying about Rosie O'Donnell and start being more concerned about what's going on in our nation. -RKO- 05/25/07

Yes, they are deliberately keeping us ignorant of many things. Spelling, for example.

I hate spell checker too.
I know that the government keeps many, many, many secrets from the people.
I was in the military for many years, I don't 'think', I know.
