How do I permanently delete a program from my desktop? Every time I go to play games or something on my computer, the AOL initialization screens pop up automatically and interfere with whatever I'm doing. I keep closing out those windows, and they keep popping up. I do not currently have internet service, so I don't care if I delete the AOL. I have constantly tried to move the AOL icon into the recycle bin and emptying the bin, but it always pops back up every time I boot up the computer. It never goes away! How can I get rid of it? It's a terrible nuisance.
Also, I got this computer from someone I don't know, and he has an icon on there with some objectionable material, and that initiation screen keeps popping up as well. How do I get rid of these?

You cannot get rid of a program by deleting a dsktop icon.

Go into Start->Settings->Control Panel and double click Add/Remove Programs. Then unistall AOL.

You'll need to know the name of the program that contains the 'objectional material'. See if it is listed in Add/Remove programs.

Click on "Start", and then on "Control Panel". Once in the control panel, double-click on "Add/Remove Programs". Find any instance of AOL in those listings, and click on "Remove". Then reboot the computer, and if all goes well you won't be bothered by any AOL nonsense again.
