The type of all in one printer I need to purchase is an copy, fax, printer, and scan machine. I have had an lexmark before but it was an older model. I am leaning toward an Lexmark X5470 but I don't know if I should get it. The Brother MFC-240C also seems like a good buy. Does anyone currently own an all in one printer that they would reccomend that I get? You input is greatly appreciated.

Price is an issue. I am looking for something under $100.

I've had a few Lexmark all in ones and i've never had a problem with them at all. Just my personal experience. Just look at what kind of scan quality and printing speed for the best buy of the 2 of the ones your looking at.

I like my HP office jet, however they are usually a higher price.

If I had to choose I would for the brother. It has more features, an ink tank system so you can replace individual colors as you go. The cartridges are higher capacity and less expensive.

avoid lexmark like the plague, their cartridges dry out quickly and are very expensive. Their scanners are horrible and the paper feed is prone to jamming which has the side effect of breaking down the gears.

The brother will shut down if one cartridge is empty, however if you are receiving a fax that is a good thing. It stores it in memory and will print it when the ink is replaced. A lexmark will just print you out a blank page.

I like my brother MFC and get discount cartidges at 123inkjets.com really cheap. I use fax scan and print a lot, it is dependable, but keep spare ink on hand, as they shut down (as someone noted) but you do get a warning......
also like all the portable memory slots for transferring files from my phone and cam. my lexmark sucked.
Canons are also cheaper on the ink side.

I would go with the Lexmark. I have the Brother, and if you run out of any of the color ink cartiages; it prevents you from using the scanner or the fax. Very annoying. Hope that helps.

I've only used HP all-in-ones. They have been OK, but I've had a few problems with them.

The only real advice I can give you is to DEFINITELY check the price of cartridges on the printers you are looking at and pick one that has decently price cartidges...they can be so expensive.

Its cheap and cheerful, I just came back from someone who had one for 6 months, good thing about the cheap ones are when they die after warranty, just get a new one and they are cheap.
