I am now 24...although when I was 16, I had an ultrasound done for other reasons and the doctor found a cyst on my left ovary... since then I have had no tests done to cofirm I have cysts although I would suspect I do...

Secondly, I have had regular menstrual cycles since I was a teenager, although now suddenly, at 24... I have only had 2 periods this year so far. I should have already had 5.. This has never happened before this year... I also have HPV.. my gyno didn't mention PCOS she just said I may be ovulating later.

And also.. I'm TTC, we have not been trying long, but I'm afraid this may hurt our chances...

Any advice on this possible PCOS thing?

I would recommend consulting a regular endocrinologist. They have a lot of experience in checking to see if a woman has this condition. They will run a series of tests including blood to rule out more serious conditions such as Diabetes because the symptoms of PCOS can be symptoms of things like Diabetes.

After they rule those things out then they can look at PCOS.

Also, ask the dr to check for a condition called Non Classic Adrenal Hyperplasia. I just found out about this on Discovery Health's "Mystery Diagnosis". This condition can cause some symptoms similar to PCOS.

I would schedule an appt. with your gyno. I too have been told I have possible PCOS but I've never had any testing done. I was told possible because of my irregular periods and I have a little darker hair than the average girl. Nothing manly though ;-) But if you are TTC I would schedule an appt. just to make sure everything is okay and that you dont need any special medicines to make yourself ovulate. Most women I've talked to/read about have had to take a medicine called "clomid" I think because they had PCOS and wanted to concieve. But I could definatly be wrong. Hope you get the results you want! Goodluck with the TTC!

it extremely is not impossible to have young ones... i became dx'd w/pcos 9 years in the past and that i've got 3 pleasing little ones. i became on 50 mg of clomid to conceive my first son, 100mg of clomid with my 2d son and not something with my third son. So, if in-actuality you DO have pcos...don't be bothered, there is desire!!!!!!!

get tested for it is the only thing you can do. Schedule an ultrasound for it. What about other symptoms? Excessive hair growth? Acne? Weight gain?
