I want an online map that lets me figure out the distance between two places. I tried google maps but I don't think there's a tool that lets me do that. And I don't want to download anything.

Go to www.gmap-pedometer.com

It's really cool and I used it to figure out how far I go on my walks.

Google Maps

Google Maps has a tool to find out the distance between two places. For example, you wanted to know the distance from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Just type "San Francisco". After finding its location, click on "From here" and type in "Los Angeles". Then, click "Go". And that's it!

The best and easiest to my mind is Mapquest.Com. They can even give you places of interest on your route.
