How can someone using a replicator burn dinner? All they have to do is tell the replicator what they want and how they want it. They can't miss.

while they can just tell the replicator what to make they can also program it to make specialties that are not stored in its memory, if they program it wrong the food can burn

It is so the fans can sympathize with Katheran Janeway.
An also because she once called it "a glorified toaster" and that hurt it's little feelings. So now it burns her dinner.

Or maybe they where trying to customized the setting(s). Instead of using automatic ones.
Kind of like trying to cook hot dogs in the microwave by guessing at the temp and duration! My hot dogs tend to end up dried, shrivelled, inedible disappointments.

the show came out in the 60s .. not to bright at that time.. hell in one esposide it said kirks middle name was one name that was in the pilot and every one know it the show it was tiberus.. and if you watch the show you see they use the props from diff shows on other one.. like the salt vampire was use on 2 different shows and so on.. and spock was suppose to have no emotion but there were times he seems to have the most .. only hiding it..
