Usually yes, individuals are your best shot. But some landlords will work with you if you have first and last months rent plus a security deposit. Otherwise look for a co-signer. And remember you usually need atleast 1 credit or money. Of course both is better.

I think you should be OK as long as you have an income that will cover rent and you don't have any evictions on your credit report. All a landlord cares about is if you pay your rent, not necessarily whether you pay your credit cards. Also look for basement apartments (craigslist and classifieds) - a private individual is less likely to run a credit check than a rental agency.

Depending on what state you live in, there are people who have houses that are renting them, and some do not necessarily check credit, they might care more about your income. Hope that helps. Check online, there are many sites, or check in the area you want to move to.

My credit is crap and I didn't have anyone turn me down. When they run my credit they came back and said I was "conditionally approved" and I had to pay a double security deposit. So instead of paying $200 I paid $400 and the place is really nice.

Try www.rent.com. I found a great place AND I got $100 back for telling them I found my apartment from them!!!

You will have to do far more searching in order to find a landlord who will accept you with a bad FICO score. You are best off to explain upfront that your credit score is not desirable and ask if they would be interested in renting to you.
