If you were spanked as a child, and condone spanking your own children as an adult, are you more likely to be a ''Right-winger"? And if you were or weren't spanked as a child, but don't condone spanking children as an adult, are you more likely to be a "Left-winger"? What is your own experience, and what do you think?

Absolutely. Hard love parenting, which involves a good beating every now and then as well as a "I am always right because I am bigger than you" attitude is cleary responsible for most of the Republicans in the country. They learn very early never to question authority, especially when it acts in a tough and belligerent way. A hands off "think for yourself" attitude is what breeds Democrats, which is why they often disagree with each other instead of marching in lock-step with the "posse", like most Reublicans.

Conservatives inbrace tradition, and spanking is tradionally how to punish a child. From that logic, I'd say Conservatives are more likely to spank than Liberals. Not to say that they actually spank their children more often, just saying that it might be more likely.

I don't think spanking will determine what political beliefs you have - I think those who spank their kids tend to be more conservative, and those conservative beliefs are passed down to their kids (spanking being one of those beliefs). I was spanked as a child, as was my brother, and we are both conservative. It's not because we were spanked though.

Your question is supposing a cause-and-effect relationship between spanking and political beliefs. There is no cause-and-effect relationship there, though. In my high school statistics class, for example, the teacher showed us a study: During certain months of the year at a beach, the sales of ice cream went up at the same time as the incidents of shark attacks at that beach. She asked, does this mean that people became more tasty to the sharks after eating the ice cream cones? Or were people trying to console themselves with ice cream after witnessing an attack? Obviously, the answer is neither - both numbers will go up in the summer because more people are at the beach then. This is a correlation - not a cause-and-effect. You should not presume cause-and-effect when there is no evidence of it.

Do I support spankings? Depends? Not for silly things like a messy room or stealing a snack.... but for serious offenses. Corporal punishment should be reserved for sane rational parents with the objective being to correct unwise behavior such as running with sissors, selling your sister's panties on e-bay :)

I do believe that those who were spanked or do spank may tend to value individual rights a bit more than the next guy, perhaps...But that would mean joining the Libertarian Party, since we're the only ones left that TRUELY give a rat's a** about individual liberty.

If you love your children, you're going to teach them to behave like people. Since they're all different, some are going to need to be spanked, some aren't. We've got one strong willed child who doens't respond to time out or taking toys away, but the mention of spanking usually keeps her in line. The other one will bawl if mommy's upset, so she's never been spanked.

The people who want to ban spanking need to get their heads out of their asses. Right now both the damn republicans and the democrats are trying to take away our rights.
