With the vast majority of the US population against President Bush, how does he continue his leadership of our country? A democratic government is suppose to elect leaders that are representative of their population, in this case, Bush. The polls show his approval rating below 30% and the support for the Iraq war also well below 40%. What is happening to our country, key word OUR, in the sense that we sit back and let our representatives act against our intentions and beliefs.

We live in a democratic republic. Why ? Because democracy itself is a majority rules form of government but often the majority can be uninformed or simply wrong. Thus a democratic republic govt blends the best of both into a better form of rule. Used to anyway, for example if the majority of americans voted to take away Bill Gates wealth would that be fair ? hence the need for the republic half. If govt decided to do something the people really opposed could the people change it ? hence the need for the democratic half. The problem today is both partys are corrupt and have lost their original founding principals and values. A candidate might think like a republican yet campaign as a democrat due to their popularity in a particular state. The people are responsible for their leaders and have failed to keep their control over them. It is always someone elses blame or responsibility in many minds. That sort of thinking and lack of attention is what has empowered those in office to run out of control. It is the duty of every American to do their part in running this country whether republican, democrat, right, or wrong.

There is no democracy in any country. Governments at all level are cropped. The only thing they really care about is getting your money (tax) to support their rich life styles while most people in the country live in poverty. The government is royalty and the rest of the country are their peasants, there's not much differences between the government of America (or any country) and The British Kingdom a couple 100 years ago, They tell use what we want, How to live, Sit on their BUTTS while the country supports them and throw use in jail if we don't live by their rules

We live in a constitutional Republic, not a Democracy. The vast majority of people hated and wanted Abraham Lincoln out of office during the civil war. Under a Republic we have laws that require a president be guilty under law of a crime in order for impeachment. Let me guess, you are a democrat and like Kool-aid.

"... A democracy, if you attach any meaning to terms, is a system of unlimited majority rule; the classic example is ancient Athens. And the symbol of it is the fate of Socrates, who was put to death legally, because the majority didn't like what he was saying, although he had initiated no force and had violated no one's rights.

Democracy, in short is a form of collectivism, which denies individual rights: the majority can do whatever it wants with no restrictions. In principle, the democratic government is all powerful. Democracy is a totalitarian manifestation; it is not a form of freedom..."

First of all, you are missing a key point. America is NOT a Democracy... that is government OF the people BY the people and FOR the people... America is a REPUBLIC (think of the pledge of allegiance... "and to the REPUBLIC for which it stands" and a REPUBLIC is government OF the people by a SMALL GROUP of the people and, supposedly... FOR the rest of the people.

It's why special interest groups can control the masses so easily in this country.

Correction: A representative government represents. That is not necessarily always a democracy, which the US isn't one of those, anyway. Ask anyone who teaches Poli-Sci, History, or Social Studies.
