I just installed a new 1G RAM chip, how can I verify its running. I went to my computer (right click) properties, and it does show 2G total, which is what it should be.. But is that verification enough, how do I really know its using all 2G's ?

doubling ur ram will definitely enhance ur computer performance.. the step u did is all u need to make sure the 2G are running.. cos the computer checks for the RAMs on startup.. so if it says they are 2G and the startup is ok.. then they are truly 2G..

well.. if u need to b more sure, then do this:.. if u have windows XP jst press (alt+ctrl+delete).. this will launch the windows task manager.. then click on performance which will show u how the system is operating on a momentary basis.. now jst look at the physical memory (it's expressed in Kb).. it should b something about 2 millions... and no need for outside advisors!!!.. gd luck..

The way your computer determines the amount of memory is by polling every cell of the memory. It says 2 gig because that is the amount it was able to poll. In other words, it made just of every single part of the 2 gig of memory when determining how much you have. So it is using it all.

That is an accurate indication. Try the Belarc Advisor at Belarc.com. It will tell you what size sticks and brand for each slot. It will tell you everything about your PC hardware and Software with Cd keys ie Windows.

Your computer should never use all of its ram because it will run slower. If it shows up as 2GB then you have 2GB of ram. Your check was just enough. If your computer is slow maby you should just restart it instead of buying more ram.
