I started using Depo about a month ago and have been bleeding ever since. It was kinda light, but still enough that I had to wear a tampon. I am heavier now, but that is because of my regular cycle. Does anyone know how long it takes to stop the breakthrough bleeding when starting Depo for the first time??

For me it lasted 45 days. Then when I went back for my shot at 90 days I had a light period for another 45 days. My Dr. said that a lot of women won't have one at all and that the rest would probably stop after their 3 or 4 shot. I didn't care. I was done. I think that if it's going to work that way (no period) for a person it usually does from the beginning. Not scientific, just from what I've heard from others that I know that have used it. Hope this helps.

For me, I had my period for about a month also, was light then eventually stopped. I recommend that you go off though. The Side effects are not pleasant. You feel achy, lose your sex drive, become dry there, not very fun. I was on it for almost two years. When I went off of it, I had my period on a constant basis for 4 months, after that it was irregular also.
