I think 6-6 or 7-5 is a realistic goal, looking at their schedule. Their problem is that they have to face a TOUGH Big 10 schedule with a brand new coach, and a brand new QB. They should jump out to a quick start, as they do every year, but, their schedule really is unfavorable. After getting UAB, Bowling Green and Pitt at home, they then have to go to Notre Dame and Wisconsin in consecutive weeks, before returning home against Northwestern and Indiana. After week 7, Michigan State "should" be either 4-3 or maybe even 5-2. But, then their schedule has major problems. Following their home game against Indiana, they then have to travel to Ohio State and Iowa, get Michigan at home, followed by road trip to Purdue before finishing against Penn State. The early wins they gained in first half of schedule will be extremely important if they want to go bowling, because the 2nd half is brutal. Even if they start out 5-2, 4 of their last 5 games are going to be extremely challenging for the Spartans. This is how I would project their season, with final record of 6-6:
W 9-1-07 UAB
W 9-8-07 BOWLING GREEN
W 9-15-07 PITTSBURGH
L 9-22-07 at Notre Dame
L 9-29-07 at Wisconsin
W 10-6-07 NORTHWESTERN
W 10-13-07 INDIANA
L 10-20-07 at Ohio State
L 10-27-07 at Iowa
L 11-3-07 MICHIGAN
W 11-10-07 at Purdue
L 11-17-07 PENN STATE

MSU needs to avoid the mid-season collapse that has seemed to plague that program for decades. Given the fact that they just named something up there after Perles when they should be cutting all ties to that blimp indicates that the plague might still be around.
7-5 would be a good season.
